Watertower by tom fruin

While bopping around NY last week Tom Fruin's monumental sculpture, Watertower, caught my eye as it sat dazzling high upon a water tower platform located in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

The mosaic design consists of about 1,000 scraps of plexiglass that were retrieved from all over New York City, ranging from old sign shops to closed-down artist studios and various warehouses.

His website explains, "This project is the fourth work in the plexiglas and steel patchwork Icon series which features scavenged, reclaimed, and recycled materials constructed into sculptural tributes to architectural icons around the world, from the obelisco of Buenos Aires, to the kolonihavehuse of Copenhagen." The Watertower design is filled with vibrant colors that glitter with sunlight during the day and, starting on June 7, will glow with daily light shows that begin at dusk and will feature Arduino-controlled internal light sequences designed by Ryan Holsopple.

You can view this stunning public installation from Lower Manhattan, FDR Drive, and the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.

Pretty rad, ay?

Nude lipsticks

Nude lipsticks have been around for some seasons now, and they have gained enough popularity to replace those pastel lipsticks and lipglosses that were used to complete a look with very intense eyes. Most cosmetic houses and brands have included one (or many) nude lipstick among their collections, from YSL to Revlon, so thay are now reachable to both women and make up artists of any background.

Ladies, Eva Longoria is here to show us how nude lipstick is done. She nailed the look yet again at the Desperate Housewives series finale party and I've got a few tips that'll help you get it right, too. Now if you'll all take out a notebook and a pen...

Based on a careful analysis of this photo (and the tips I've soaked up from pros and trial and error over the years) here are what I've determined to be the top rules for mastering nude lips:

1. Pick a shade that works with your skin tone. You want something with a little bit of color in it so that you don't end up looking like a corpse. Try a pink-tinted nude if you have fair skin; go with a peachy nude if you're complexion is medium or olive. Dark skin tones look great with with warm, caramel nudes.

2. I think nude lips look more modern with a little bit of shine like Eva's. To get that effect, opt for a nude gloss or dab sheer lip gloss or a creamy balm over a matte nude lipstick.

3. Pair your light lips with bronzer or some sort of warm blush (like a peach or tawny shade) to give the rest of your face subtle color. See how Eva's skin glows? So pretty!

And that's it. Think you'll give nude lips a try this week? If you already have a favorite nude shade, please share in the comments section below!

P.S. If you're still a little skeptical about pulling off pale colors, try almost-nude lips to help you ease into it.

Zara favorites.

I have to confess that, in my enormous ignorance, I didn't know Zara's website does include Venezuela among their countries, and that there were also lookbooks with the names and the prices of the pieces in VEF. Last Friday I checked in detail March, April and May lookbooks and I thought it would be a good idea to share my favorite picks here (even though this is the-day-before-yesterday news to some of you).

And last, but not least, my two greatest favorites.

I think that coral tunic is an excellent choice for the hot-as-hell weather of my city, and I find it quite similar, but much more chic and neat, to the typical attires worn by women from some southamerican indigenous groups. Besides, I am a complete sucker for all things coral or orange, you already knew that ;) Which look do you prefer? Do we happen to share some favorites? Let me know!
